Job Description
The regional dry van carrier is a reputable transportation company that specializes in hauling customer freight primarily across Texas, Oklahoma, the Southeast, the Midwest, and the Northeast regions of the United States. Known for its commitment to steady freight operations and driver satisfaction, the company has built a strong reputation by focusing on customer freight rather than broker freight, ensuring consistent work for its drivers without the uncertainty often associated with brokered loads. This customer-centric approach means they understand the needs of their drivers and avoid over-hiring, promoting a balanced and stable work environment.
This company emphasizes no-touch freight and offers a significant portion of drop and hook loads, making the day-to-day operations more manageable and less physically demanding for their drivers. With approximately 65 percent of loads being drop and hook, drivers experience less waiting time and increased efficiency on the road. The carrier proudly facilitates home weekly schedules, allowing drivers to take their trucks and trailers home, provided they have the space for both since trailers cannot be detached from tractors.
The role of a driver with this carrier involves operating dry van trailers across regional routes covering multiple states, including high-demand areas in the Northeast where additional pay incentives apply. Drivers typically run an average of 2150 to 2800 miles per week, with competitive pay structures that reward increased mileage with escalating per-mile bonuses. Drivers receive a base rate starting at 53 cents per mile with increments provided as bonuses for surpassing 9000, 10000, and 11000 miles per month. There is an extra 25 cents per mile premium for deliveries terminating in parts of the Northeast, specifically Pennsylvania, Delaware, and North regions.
Moreover, there is no forced dispatch to New York City or Long Island, but drivers who choose to deliver there receive an additional $125 per trip. These pay incentives reflect the carrier’s commitment to compensating its drivers generously for the extensive mileage and the challenging routes undertaken. The weekly pay ranges between $1300 to $1700, directly correlating to the distance driven and the dedication exemplified by the driver.
The company provides full benefits starting after 30 days of employment, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Furthermore, drivers are eligible for a 401(k) plan after 90 days, allowing them to plan for their financial futures. Vacation pay is also offered based on the average of the driver’s last 52 weeks of earnings, providing additional financial security.
Drivers are welcomed to bring riders after 30 days, while pets are allowed from day one, with some breed restrictions and weight limits in place to ensure safety and comfort. Orientation is compensated with a $250 pay once the new driver completes the required portion online, reflecting the company’s incentive to onboard qualified drivers efficiently.
This carrier has stringent hiring standards, disallowing any applicant who has failed or refused a DOT drug test ever, highlighting a firm commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. The company does not accept drivers with certain disqualifiers such as multiple moving violations, preventable accidents, or recent safety-related termination from employment.
Overall, this regional dry van carrier offers a solid opportunity for professional drivers looking for consistent work, competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and a respectful work environment geared towards long-term career growth in the trucking industry.
