Job Description
The City of Fresno, located in California's vibrant Central Valley, is a dynamic and progressive municipality dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through efficient public services and community-oriented programs. With a commitment to building a better Fresno, the city's Personnel Services Department plays a vital role in recruiting, managing, and supporting a diverse workforce that serves the needs of a growing population. Fresno is known for its rich cultural diversity, agricultural heritage, and increasing economic opportunities, and the city's administrative teams are crucial in driving forward its vision of sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation.
The City of Fresno is currently seeking motivated individuals for multiple temporary clerical positions within various departments. These opportunities are designed for individuals eager to contribute to the community while gaining valuable experience in municipal operations. The temporary employment offers an hourly wage range of $16.90 to $23.50, providing competitive compensation for diverse assignments. The roles are temporary, with employment not exceeding 2,080 hours within two fiscal years, and are limited to 29 working hours per week or up to 40 hours per week for a maximum of 120 days, in compliance with the City Charter and municipal codes. This flexible structure allows for a variety of work schedules that align with department needs and operational demands.
These temporary clerical positions encompass a broad spectrum of responsibilities including filing, data entry, receptionist duties, customer service, and technical support such as computer deployment and troubleshooting. Additionally, there are labor assignments involving light and heavy manual work, often performed under varied weather conditions, which require safe operation of light equipment and hand tools. Some roles are also available at the Animal Center, involving direct interaction with animals and the public, requiring physical labor and handling exposure to odors, noise, and potential zoonotic diseases. These positions offer applicants a unique chance to engage with the public, support essential city functions, and develop new skills across administrative, technical, and labor disciplines.
While these roles do not include health benefits or retirement plans and do not guarantee permanent employment, they provide vital support to the City's operations and enable participants to build a professional network within municipal government. Selected candidates must pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint check, with additional rigorous background checks for positions in Police, Fire, or Airports Departments, including possible polygraphs or voice stress analysis. A valid California Driver's License may be required depending on the assignment.
The City of Fresno encourages applicants to carefully select the programs of interest to ensure the best alignment with their skills and career goals. The City values diversity and inclusion and is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing reasonable accommodations as needed. Temporary employees accrue sick leave and have access to a supportive work environment dedicated to fostering community engagement and professional growth. Joining the City of Fresno team means being part of a dedicated workforce focused on making a tangible difference in one of California's most vibrant communities.
