Job Description

FedEx Freight is a leading freight services company specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) freight transportation. As an integral part of FedEx, the company is committed to providing reliable and efficient freight delivery services across a broad geographic area in the United States. With a comprehensive network of service centers and a strong focus on customer satisfaction, FedEx Freight is known for its outstanding operational performance and commitment to safety and professionalism. FedEx Freight employs a diverse workforce and offers significant opportunities for growth and development in the logistics and transportation industry.

The position available is for a Commercial Driver in a full-time capacity. This role is essential within the operational framework of FedEx Freight and focuses on the pick-up and delivery of freight between service centers and customers. In addition to freight transportation, the driver supports the selling process by engaging with customers to identify additional business opportunities. The position begins with a competitive starting pay rate of $31.93 per hour and includes a host of responsibilities that require professionalism, flexibility, and adherence to safety regulations.

In this role, the Commercial Driver will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples, and straight trucks where applicable. Daily tasks comprise performing pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment to ensure all vehicles meet safety standards. Drivers are responsible for hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies, and for securely handling freight using motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Securing freight properly within the trailers using the appropriate tools and supplies is also a critical aspect of the job. Drivers must also be capable of recouping or repairing damaged freight when necessary to maintain service integrity.

Documentation accuracy plays a significant role in this position, as drivers must verify and complete required paperwork and reports consistently. Compliance with hazardous materials regulations and procedures is mandatory to maintain safety and legality on the roads. Customer interaction is an important job function where the driver communicates directly with customers to understand their freight needs and promotes additional business opportunities. Communication with dispatch is equally essential to provide updates regarding delays, arrivals, and any issues encountered with equipment.

The role demands physical endurance, as it involves lifting freight weighing up to 100 pounds multiple times a week and the ability to sit, bend, twist, and climb in and out of the truck frequently. Safety and compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, along with company policies, are prioritized at all times. Drivers must be flexible to perform additional duties, such as chaining vehicle tires and, if necessary, supporting dock operations or road driving tasks.

FedEx Freight offers a supportive work environment with clear expectations and a commitment to the safety and well-being of its employees. The company seeks motivated individuals who demonstrate responsibility, customer service skills, and reliability. Successful candidates will join one of the most respected companies in the freight transportation industry with opportunities for advancement and professional growth.
