Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in kitchen preparation and cooking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of or ability to learn sanitation and workplace safety regulations
  • Basic understanding of or ability to learn food handling, preparation and cooking procedures
  • Ability to work efficiently and quickly
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team
  • Must be able to work well under pressure
  • Ability to maintain personal cleanliness
  • Continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop and wipe
  • Prolonged periods standing and preparing and cooking food
  • Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times
  • Must be able to work in a kitchen environment with exposure to extreme heat or cold

Job Duties

  • Prepare a variety of food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and other kitchen equipment
  • Assume 100% responsibility for quality of products served
  • Comply consistently with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, kitchen rules, policies and procedures
  • Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure smooth service period
  • Portion food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work-station area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, and refrigeration equipment
  • Prepare items for broiling, grilling, frying, sautéing or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning and/or marinating
  • Follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes
  • Handle, store and rotate all products properly
  • Assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed
  • Close the kitchen properly and follow the closing checklist for kitchen stations
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
