Job Description

SKD-St. Francis is a vibrant church community dedicated to fostering spiritual growth and worship through music and liturgy. Known for its welcoming congregation and commitment to excellence in worship, SKD-St. Francis emphasizes the importance of music in enhancing the liturgical experience. The church operates with a focus on community involvement, inclusivity, and reverence for sacred traditions. As a faith-based establishment, SKD-St. Francis offers a supportive environment where music plays a central role in enriching congregational participation and spiritual reflection.

The position of Choir Accompanist for the Mixed Choir at SKD-St. Francis is an essential role to support the worship music ministry. Under the guidance of the Worship Director and Mixed Choir Director, the accompanist plays a vital part in rehearsals and Masses, providing musical accompaniment to enhance the choir's performance and the overall liturgical atmosphere. This role is non-salaried but compensated per session, with payments of $50 for each rehearsal session and $50 for each Mass, including any preparatory warm-up sessions. The work schedule involves approximately four engagements per month from September through May, with additional commitments during significant liturgical seasons such as Christmas and Easter.

The Choir Accompanist will be responsible for preparing repertoire as selected by the Mixed Choir Director, ensuring that all music for rehearsals and Masses is well practiced and proficiently presented. The accompanist assists in choir warmups, supports the director during rehearsals, and demonstrates punctuality and professionalism in all duties. This role requires a strong background in piano or organ keyboard playing, with at least five years of experience and two years as an accompanist, ideally in a choir setting. Candidates should possess basic sight-reading ability, the capacity to play choral parts both individually and in coordination, and comfort with chromatic warmups.

Additional expectations include the ability to follow direction respectfully and support the conductor’s vision, as well as organizational skills to maintain prepared music binders. The accompanist must also embody respectful conduct suited to the sacred setting of the church and the solemnity of the liturgy. While experience playing for a Catholic Mass is preferred, it is not a strict requirement. Virtus training is mandatory before commencing the position, reflecting the church's priority of safeguarding and adherence to ethical standards.

This role offers a fulfilling opportunity to contribute to a cherished community tradition, helping lead and inspire through music. It is an excellent position for musicians looking to combine their talents with faith and service in a meaningful way. If you have a passion for church music, strong accompanist skills, and an appreciation for liturgical settings, this position at SKD-St. Francis represents a rewarding engagement within a respectful and community-oriented environment.
