This particular role is for a Cafeteria Manager I within the Child Nutrition Services department, a pivotal position directly involved in the daily operations and management of school meal programs. The position is a full-time opportunity based on a 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) schedule, spanning 40 hours per week over a 9-month period aligned with the school calendar. The classification level for this role is Level L with a starting salary of $24.06 per hour, situating it competitively within the classified staff salary schedule for 2025-2026. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, providing a reliable and consistent work environment with payment disbursed on the last working day of each month.

In this role, the Cafeteria Manager I will have direct oversight and responsibility for the child nutrition staff, ensuring that meals are prepared and served efficiently and according to established nutritional standards. Core responsibilities include supervising and training staff, managing inventory by ordering and receiving food and supplies, maintaining safety and sanitation procedures, and ensuring compliance with district guidelines. Furthermore, this role serves as a critical liaison between students, teachers, and building administration, facilitating communication and fostering a positive environment conducive to student wellness.

The position demands a candidate capable of multitasking with a strong attention to detail to keep accurate production and participation records, evaluate staff performance, and manage daily deposits securely. Physical demands include constant hearing, hand-eye, and mind-eye coordination, as well as intermittent keyboarding, sitting, lifting, walking, and frequent use of wrists, hands, and fingers for repetitive motions. Candidates will also be required to attend certification courses offered by CANS either before or after hiring to ensure continuous professional development and adherence to quality standards.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • one to three years' experience in similar position
  • post-offer physical required
  • attendance of certification courses offered by CANS
  • previous institutional quantity preparation of food service experience preferred
  • ability to perform physical tasks including hearing, hand-eye coordination, keyboarding, sitting, lifting, standing, walking, carrying, and repetitive hand motions
