Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in child development, child life, or related field with a concentration in child life
  • Completion of a 600-hour child life internship under supervision of a certified child life specialist
  • Certification in Child Life Specialist required within 1 year of hire
  • Ability to organize and promote patient/family focused programming
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience resolving problems using child development theory and professional child life principles

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life
  • Completion of a 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist
  • Certification in Child Life Specialist required within 1 year of hire
  • General skills to resolve problems using child development theory, professional child life principles, and experience-based knowledge
  • Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution

Job Duties

  • Organize and promote patient/family focused programming
  • Initiate and maintain connection with patients and families on a daily basis
  • Create and prepare special events, milestones and celebrations
  • Prepare or assist in preparing proposals for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors
  • Support families visiting the Resource Room by answering questions, making appropriate referrals and providing available resources
  • Serve as a member on the interdisciplinary team
  • Draft written communication and promotional literature
  • Interact and maintain liaison with staff, faculty and outside/community agencies in facilitating program objectives
