Joining Bright Horizons as a full-time Cook at their Redmond center provides the opportunity to play a critical role in nurturing children’s health through the preparation of nutritious, family-style meals. This position is responsible for planning and preparing balanced meals and snacks that adhere to approved menus, nutritional guidelines, and consider daily attendance counts, ensuring that every child receives wholesome, well-proportioned food that fuels their growth and development. The cook’s work directly supports the center’s educators, staff, and children by offering a warm, predictable mealtime routine that enhances the overall learning environment. This role operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing a stable schedule that allows employees to balance work and life.
The cook maintains a safe, clean, and organized kitchen environment by following strict food safety protocols, allergy management techniques, sanitation standards, and health procedures. They manage food and supply inventories by placing timely orders through approved vendors and collaborating closely with center staff to ensure smooth, efficient meal service daily. Physical demands of the role include lifting food and supplies up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing for prolonged periods, and performing various kitchen and cleaning tasks. The compensation for this role ranges from $24.00 to $26.00 per hour, with actual pay determined based on experience, education, certifications, and location. Job Requirements
- 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED is required
- Having or obtaining a food handler certification within 30 days of hire is required
- Must pass required state and company background checks
- Comply with all applicable immunizations, employment physical/screening, and health and safety training requirements
- Ability to lift and carry food and supplies typically between 10 to 40 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Standing for extended periods and performing repetitive kitchen and cleaning tasks
- Maintain mental and physical alertness to respond immediately and appropriately to emergencies
Job Qualifications
- 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
- Having or obtaining a food handler certification within 30 days of hire
- Coursework or certification in Nutrition preferred
- Food service experience in a childcare center, school cafeteria, commercial kitchen, or high-volume food service setting preferred
- Must pass required state and company background checks and meet state and company minimum education and experience requirements
Job Duties
- Plan and prepare balanced, family-style meals and snacks following approved menus, nutritional guidelines, and daily attendance counts
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen by following food safety, allergy-management, sanitation, and health procedures
- Manage food and supply inventory, place orders through approved vendors, and partner with center staff to support smooth daily meal service
- Comply with all federal, state, local, and company requirements concerning immunizations, physical screening, and health and safety training
- Lift and carry food and supplies up to 50 pounds occasionally while standing for extended periods and performing kitchen and cleaning tasks
- Respond immediately and appropriately to unexpected situations or emergencies in the kitchen environment
- Support a warm and predictable mealtime routine that contributes to the children’s overall health and learning experience
