Job Description

The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Cook position is an essential role located within a Child Development Center (CDC) with occasional responsibilities assisting the School Age Care (SAC) Program. This position is internal to Naval Station Norfolk and specifically open to current employees at the station. The CYP Cook is responsible for performing a wide range of food preparation and food service tasks that support the nutritional needs of children participating in the CYP. The position requires a dedicated individual who is skilled in quantity cooking and adept at maintaining sanitation and safety standards within a food service environment.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food handling techniques
  • Experience in quantity food preparation
  • Ability to develop and adjust recipes
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Ability to maintain sanitation and safety procedures
  • Current employee of Naval Station Norfolk

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook large quantities of food following established recipes and quality standards
  • Ensure all food items meet safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation areas and equipment
  • Develop, adjust, and expand standardized recipes for quantity cooking
  • Manage multiple cooking processes to serve food at optimal taste, texture, and appearance
  • Coordinate food preparation activities involving several steps and ingredients
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth kitchen operations
