Job Description
Young Life is a well-established, faith-based nonprofit organization focused on youth evangelism and discipleship. Founded with the mission to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and foster their spiritual growth, Young Life operates through clubs, camps, and one-on-one mentoring in communities across the United States. With a rich history and a strong commitment to Christian values, the organization emphasizes servant leadership and a close relationship with God among its staff and volunteers. Young Life places a significant focus on building supportive environments where young people, including those with disabilities, can experience the Gospel through relational ministry and meaningful engagement. This organization requires all employees and volunteers to sign a Statement of Faith, affirming their belief in Jesus Christ and their dedication to the organization's Christian mission, reflecting an unyielding commitment to biblical standards and the proclamation of the gospel.
The Capernaum Coordinator role based in Cherry Creek, a dynamic suburban community near Denver, is a pivotal leadership position within Young Life's inclusive ministry efforts. This position is designed for a leader who possesses experience in revitalizing ministries within evolving environments and advocating for inclusion through Capernaum, Young Life's ministry for kids with disabilities. The ideal candidate demonstrates relational depth and cultural awareness, capable of rebuilding trust and momentum through presence, creativity, and strong leadership development within large and high-performing school environments.
In this role, the coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the spiritual, leadership, resource development, and direct ministry activities of the Capernaum program. The primary focus is to nurture a vibrant spiritual life among leaders and volunteers by fostering prayer, spiritual disciplines, and church relationships. The coordinator will lead the development of yearly spiritual growth plans for themselves and the team, ensuring all ministry activities are conducted with a dependence on prayer and grounded in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Leadership development is a core aspect of this role, requiring the coordinator to partner with local area directors and committees to cast a compelling vision to reach every child within the designated area, especially focusing on teens with disabilities. They will develop and maintain subcommittees that address the unique needs of this community and lead efforts in recruiting, training, and caring for volunteers and leaders. Furthermore, the coordinator will be instrumental in resource development by leading fundraising strategies, coordinating events, and managing public relations to enhance the Young Life brand and financial support.
Direct ministry work involves hands-on engagement in contact work, club leadership, camp activities, and Campaigners programs. The coordinator will actively participate at all these levels, modeling excellence and advancing Gospel proclamation through camping experiences. They will collaborate closely with schools, parents, and aides to gain access to and build relationships with kids with disabilities, ensuring effective ministry delivery.
Administrative responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, adhering to organizational policies, and ensuring professional communication within the team and community. The position offers continuous training opportunities to support personal spiritual growth and professional skill enhancement, including participation in mission-wide training events.
Young Life seeks a candidate with a college degree preferred, a vital relationship with Jesus Christ, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and proven leadership in ministry contexts. The physical demands of the role include handling varying camp conditions such as exposure to heat, cold, dirt, and outdoor activities like hiking and horseback riding. This full-time role offers a meaningful opportunity to impact lives deeply through faith-based ministry in an inclusive and supportive environment.
