Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Culinary Arts Certificate or higher
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in the food service industry including 2 years supervising staff and operations
  • Ability to perform any task in the kitchen
  • Skill in leading food service operations including staff training and supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Proficient in hot and cold food preparation
  • Experience coordinating procurement with buyers and vendors
  • Knowledge of point-of-sale systems
  • Excellent culinary skills and knowledge of various food traditions
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to maintain excellent staff and customer relationships under pressure
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Google and Microsoft software
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours

  • Proven hot and cold food preparation skills including appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts
  • Coordinate cost-effective procurement with buyers and vendors
  • Knowledge of point-of-sale systems
  • Excellent culinary skills and familiarity with various food traditions including world cuisines
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and service practices
  • Ability to pass ServSafe managers' course
  • Ability to work in high-volume, customer-oriented, pressure-packed environments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google and Microsoft applications
  • Skill in using kitchen equipment such as slicers, steamers, ovens, grills, and food processors
  • Willingness to work evening or weekend hours for special functions

Job Duties

  • Plan, coordinate production, and prepare meals for one of three UCAR cafes, catering functions, and banquets
  • Clean and organize work area, and ensure all staff follow consistent sanitation guidelines
  • Ensure all food is prepared and held at proper temperatures
  • Adhere to all Health Department standards
  • Cost-effectively procure products and services as needed and verify deliveries for accuracy and quality
  • Perform regular inventories of production and catering areas
  • Be familiar with and operate a cafe point of sale system
  • Verify cafe sales for accuracy
  • Maintain accurate and actionable position descriptions, training programs, and job-specific checklists for line staff
  • Set work schedules, approve time off, and verify staff hours for bi-weekly payroll
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals
  • Responsible for the supervision and development of employees
  • Facilitate problem resolution, and provide ongoing training and evaluation of performance
  • Ensure that meals for cafe and catering functions are prepared and served in a timely manner and are high quality
  • Hold staff accountable for quality, cost efficiency, friendly and effective customer service, and safe and sanitary operations
