Job Description
Mater Private Hospital Redlands is a well-established healthcare facility located in the Cleveland suburb of Brisbane's Bayside community. Since opening in 2000, it has grown to become the only private hospital facility serving the Redland Shire, offering a broad spectrum of specialised surgical and medical services. These include women's health, urology, ophthalmology, neurology, and orthopaedics, supported by a 60-bed capacity and two fully equipped operating theatres. As part of the esteemed Mater Group, which is Queensland's largest not-for-profit healthcare provider, Mater Private Hospital Redlands is dedicated to delivering exceptional care to its patients while fostering a culture of innovation, compassion, and excellence within the healthcare industry.
The role available is a permanent part-time position for a Chef, working 16 hours per week. This position is crucial to ensuring patients and staff receive nutritious, high-quality meals that meet strict healthcare standards. The role offers a competitive hourly salary between $35.74 and $37.46 plus superannuation, along with access to not-for-profit salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 annually and additional staff benefits. As a Chef at Mater Private Hospital Redlands, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting both hot and cold dishes for patients and buffet services, adhering to standard recipes, portion sizes, and cooking methods that maintain the highest quality. You will play an active role in stock control, labeling, and food safety procedures aimed at minimizing waste and ensuring safety compliance.
Maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment is a key aspect of this role. You will be expected to use cleaning products correctly and ensure that all kitchen equipment is maintained and reported upon promptly if any faults occur. Strict adherence to Mater's Food Safety Plan and workplace health and safety guidelines is imperative. You will work collaboratively within a team to meet service timeframes and performance targets, playing an integral part in the hospital's commitment to excellence in patient care.
This Chef position demands a candidate with a passion for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have a recognized qualification such as a Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent Trade Chef qualification. You will need to hold a Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate issued within the last five years and bring at least three years of experience in healthcare or a similar high-volume kitchen. A strong understanding of HACCP principles and cook/chill processes is essential, as is the ability to follow recipes accurately and manage tight timeframes. Effective communication and teamwork skills with a focus on quality and safety are also important requirements for this role.
Joining Mater means being part of a larger purpose-driven organization renowned for its leadership in healthcare, education, fundraising, philanthropy, and research. As a member of the Mater team, you can expect access to generous salary packaging options, including benefits related to meals and entertainment. Career growth opportunities are supported through Mater's industry-leading training and professional development programs. Employee wellbeing is a top priority, with support available via an Employee Assistance Program and on-site pastoral care teams. Additional benefits include corporate discounts on private health insurance, exclusive discounts at various retailers and services, unlimited access to discounted gyms via the Fitness Passport program, and convenient discounted on-site parking. Moreover, staff enjoy reduced prices at campus cafes and coffee shops. Joining Mater is more than just a job—it's an opportunity to be part of Queensland's largest and most innovative not-for-profit healthcare organization, where your contributions help shape the future of care.
