This immediate opening is for a part-time Chef position at Catering By Design. The role offers an hourly pay rate between $25.00 and $27.00, with scheduling flexibility that includes days, evenings, weekdays, and weekends. Hours may vary, and further details will be provided during the interview process. This position is perfect for candidates with prior experience in off-premise event catering. The Chef is responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of cooks and other kitchen staff involved in food preparation, cooking, and service. The role requires ensuring that all food handling, sanitation standards, and customer service expectations are consistently met to uphold the company's reputation for excellence. The Chef will also oversee equipment use and maintenance, manage event breakdowns, and ensure smooth execution of special events by reading and interpreting event orders, notes, and company standard operating procedures. Staff supervision is a key component of the job, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll management, training, performance reviews, and recommending disciplinary actions when necessary.

Additionally, the Chef must prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and maintain food presentation, quality, portion control, and proper serving temperatures. The position also involves tracking inventory, requisitioning supplies, inspecting incoming products, maintaining sanitation of equipment and workstations, and contributing to recipe and menu development. Job Requirements

  • Prior experience in off-premise event catering preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Supervises, coordinates and participates in activities of cooks and other associates engaged in preparing, cooking and serving food
  • Ensures all food handling, sanitation and customer service standards are met
  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and return of all CBD equipment
  • maintain the venue and act respectfully with venue staff and other vendors
  • Execute efficient and safe event breakdown/load-out and complete any required responsibilities upon return to the warehouse
  • Read and interpret Special Event Orders, notes, and company SOPs to plan staff assignments, manage timelines, and ensure smooth event execution
  • Supervises hourly kitchen associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action
  • Efficiently prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes to meet production, delivery and service schedules
  • Serves meals or prepares for delivery
  • Ensures proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
  • Tracks food use, waste and consumption to requisition or purchase product
  • Receives and inspects product and supplies for quality and quantity to ensure appropriate inventory
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
  • Cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
  • Keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service to ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, production and merchandising requirements
  • Helps select and develop recipes and menus
  • Performs other duties as assigned
