Orchard Heights is currently seeking a passionate and experienced Chef to lead and elevate the culinary experience for all residents. This role is perfect for a culinary professional who believes that food should be flavorful, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully prepared to enhance the dining experience. The Chef will oversee daily culinary operations, ensuring that every meal served meets the highest standards of quality, consistency, and nutrition, tailored specifically to the diverse dietary needs of elderly residents. This includes planning, developing, and executing seasonal menus that cater to special diets such as low sodium, diabetic, mechanical soft, and pureed food requirements, ensuring compliance with physician orders and dietary guidelines.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scratch cooking, recipe development, and a deep understanding of senior nutrition and safety standards. At Orchard Heights, the Chef will lead a dedicated culinary team, supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff to deliver a warm, restaurant-style dining experience that residents look forward to daily. This position requires collaboration with other departments, including Recreation and Leadership, to support themed events and special celebrations, adding an element of joy and innovation to the residents’ lifestyle.
The Chef’s responsibilities extend beyond food preparation to managing inventory and ordering while maintaining strict compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations and food safety standards. This is a fast-paced, hospitality-focused environment requiring excellent organizational and communication skills, flexibility to work alternating weekends and holidays, and a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of seniors. Job Requirements
- 3-5 plus years of culinary experience preferred
- strong knowledge of scratch cooking and experience with recipe and menu development
- experience with special diets such as low sodium, diabetic, mechanical soft, puree
- ServSafe Certification or willingness to obtain
