The role of Chef/Line Cook aboard Amtrak's dining cars involves preparing and serving fresh, full-course meals to passengers during their journeys. This position requires expertise in food preparation and an ability to maintain high standards of hygiene and safety, complying with FDA regulations. The Chef/Line Cook will be responsible for the entire meal preparation process—from handling, cooking, and plating food to assisting with inventory management such as loading and unloading supplies and verifying products. Additionally, the role includes maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and utensil areas, ensuring a sanitary environment for meal service. Communication skills are essential in this position, as is the ability to work collaboratively with serving staff and other team members.

This position offers a competitive training pay rate of $21.00 per hour, increasing to $29.27 per hour upon completion of training, with opportunities for further wage increases as per collective bargaining agreements. Employed full-time with travel up to 100%, the Chef/Line Cook position is a key role on Amtrak’s culinary team that contributes directly to passenger satisfaction. Amtrak offers a comprehensive benefits package to support employees, including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401K retirement plans, wellness programs, and various employee assistance programs. Amtrak is committed to equal opportunity employment and fosters an inclusive workplace where diverse perspectives and backgrounds are valued. Background checks, drug screening, and compliance with federal security regulations are required to ensure passenger and team safety. This career opportunity offers not only rewarding compensation but also a fulfilling experience in a culture that values high performance and respect among colleagues.
