Job Description
DIG Restaurants is a pioneering restaurant group dedicated to creating positive change in the food system through delicious, scratch-made meals and a commitment to sustainable, ethical culinary practices. Established with a passion for real food, DIG operates scratch-based kitchens that prioritize freshest ingredients, seasonal variety, and a people-first approach. The company believes in fostering a community where education, inclusivity, and purpose are core values. As part of their mission, DIG emphasizes cultural inclusivity and encourages applications from diverse backgrounds including female, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and other underrepresented groups. This commitment to diversity is reflected in the team environment and workplace culture.
The Chef-in-Training role at DIG offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about good food to learn culinary skills in a supportive, fast-paced environment geared towards growth and development. This position involves hands-on experience within scratch kitchens where trainees are taught to prep, mix, and cook various elements such as vegetables, proteins, and grains using recipes and sensory validation techniques. Trainees gain exposure to multiple kitchen stations, including garde manger, grill, roast, market line, guest concierge, and delivery/packout, broadening their culinary knowledge and operational skills.
The role is designed to build foundational culinary expertise while encouraging leadership development and teamwork. The Chef-in-Training will engage actively with guests by discussing menu offerings, seasonality, and ingredients, contributing to a memorable dining experience through marketbowl meals. They support team efforts during both peak and off-peak service hours by providing assistance wherever needed, demonstrating flexibility and a strong work ethic. Physical stamina is essential as the role requires standing and moving for extended periods and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Maintaining health and safety standards is a critical part of the job, with a dedicated focus on adhering to Department of Health regulations and DIG’s food safety protocols to ensure the highest quality and hygiene in the kitchen.
Aside from technical skills, the position requires professionalism in behavior and a strong adherence to DIG’s anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies, fostering a safe and respectful workplace. The role is not only about cooking but also being part of a larger mission to rebuild the food system by promoting sustainable food practices and cultivating an engaged, passionate community. Individuals who thrive in collaborative environments and desire to grow within the culinary brigade will find this role especially rewarding.
DIG offers competitive hourly wages ranging from $16 to $18 plus tips and supplemental benefits. The work environment allows for flexible scheduling with both full-time and part-time positions available. Additionally, the company provides an array of benefits including paid time off, 401K program, parental leave, holiday time off during major holidays, complimentary lunch, and commuter benefits. These perks support employees’ wellbeing and work-life balance, further enhancing the positive team culture that DIG fosters.
Joining DIG as a Chef-in-Training means becoming part of a forward-thinking restaurant that values real food, sustainability, community, and the growth of its team members. This role is ideal for culinary enthusiasts eager to gain experience, develop leadership skills, and contribute to a meaningful mission in the hospitality industry.
