Job Description

Denver Rescue Mission is a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to transforming lives and uplifting communities through comprehensive assistance programs, including shelter, food, recovery services, and educational support for those in need throughout Denver, Colorado. As a leading provider of emergency and transitional services, Denver Rescue Mission emphasizes a holistic approach to addressing homelessness and poverty, focusing not just on immediate relief but also on sustainable recovery and personal growth. Established on Christian principles, the organization intertwines spiritual guidance with practical aid to foster hope, healing, and long-term self-sufficiency for its clients. Denver Rescue Mission's workforce thrives on dedication to service, inclusivity, and values that resonate with their mission to restore the dignity of every individual served.

The Chef position at Denver Rescue Mission plays a crucial role in ensuring the kitchen's smooth operation while supporting a positive environment for both staff and volunteers. This role can be fulfilled either as a full-time or part-time position (less than 30 hours per week), offering a competitive hourly wage range between $20.75 and $25.93 depending on qualifications and experience. Reporting directly to the Denver Food Services leadership team, the Chef is responsible for orchestrating all kitchen activities and volunteer involvement to provide nourishing, balanced meals to individuals utilizing the Mission’s services at each facility. The position revolves around menu planning, food preparation, overseeing buffet style meal service, and maintaining food safety and hygiene standards within a busy environment reliant on donated food resources.

Beyond food production, the Chef cultivates an empowering atmosphere by mobilizing volunteers and program participants, fostering teamwork, and contributing actively to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall kitchen efficiency and experience. Operating within a respectful and professional environment, Chefs take turns supporting one another throughout their shifts to meet the dynamic needs of the operation. Responsibilities also include training program participants in safe food practices, managing inventory meticulously, and consistently ensuring cleanliness and compliance with health department standards. The Chef position requires a strong understanding of hospitality and commercial kitchen processes, underpinned by a Christian ethic that respects and embraces diverse backgrounds.

Those interested in this Chef role will benefit from the comprehensive benefits package offered by Denver Rescue Mission, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; generous paid time off including vacation, sick leave, holidays, and special days off such as one’s birthday and a refreshment day; employer-sponsored life and disability insurance; flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts with contributions from the employer; tuition reimbursement; child adoption benefits; and a 401(k) retirement plan with company matching of up to 5%. This multifaceted support underscores Denver Rescue Mission’s commitment to taking care of its employees as they serve the community. The inclusion of paid parental and bereavement leave further demonstrates the organization's dedication to fostering a supportive workplace. Applicants must hold or be willing to quickly obtain certifications in ServSafe and CPR, show willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and uphold the organization’s Christian Statement of Faith. The Chef position provides a unique opportunity for culinary professionals to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives while advancing their career within a reputable and mission-driven institution.
