Job Description
Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis is a compassionate nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comfort, care, and a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children. The organization empowers families to stay close to their hospitalized children by offering a supportive environment where they can focus on family-centered care during challenging and emotional times. We are currently seeking a full-time Chef Assistant to join our mission-focused team of professionals. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen alongside a seasoned Executive Chef, contributing to the preparation of comforting, home-style meals for families staying at the House. The Chef Assistant will take a hands-on role in supporting the daily meal service program, ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently, safely, and hygienically. Additionally, this role involves leading volunteer meal groups in meal preparation and service activities, all while maintaining strict adherence to ServSafe protocols and food safety standards. The position not only emphasizes culinary skill but also values the ability to create a warm, welcoming dining atmosphere for families and volunteers.
The Chef Assistant will play a critical part in upholding compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding food safety, sanitation, and kitchen operations. Collaboration is essential in this role, as the successful candidate will work closely with staff, volunteers, and community partners to achieve both departmental and organizational goals aligned with RMHC’s mission and core values. This position is scheduled on weekdays from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with one consistent weekend shift weekly and two days off per week, offering a structured yet dynamic work schedule. The role calls for an experienced culinary professional who is passionate about making a difference through food and hospitality while demonstrating excellent kitchen management skills and team coordination abilities.

Job Requirements
- Minimum of five years of culinary experience
- food handler certification
- ServSafe certification
- understanding of nutrition, food costing and sourcing, meal production and planning
- extensive knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations for commercial food establishments, including sanitation and maintenance regulations
- ability to perform physical tasks including bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs
- ability to climb stairs frequently
- ability to walk distances up to 80 yards
- ability to travel between Ronald McDonald House locations as needed
Job Qualifications

- knowledge of commercial restaurant equipment
Job Duties
- Assist with operation of commercial kitchen areas
- support safe and healthy food service program delivering quality, variety, service, cleanliness, and value for families, volunteers, and staff
- follow all food safety and sanitation requirements
- participate in safe preparation and serving of food with attention to portion size and timely service
- assist with inventory supply system using first in/first out procedures
- ensure cleaning checklist and temperature requirements are logged
- support cleanliness, sanitation and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas
- provide direction, coordination, and supervision to volunteer meal groups
