Job Description

The Chef position at UNC Greensboro entails directing, coordinating, and supervising assigned kitchen operations and food production activities to deliver high quality meals to customers. This role is vital in maintaining food safety, sanitation, and excellent customer service standards within the kitchen. The selected candidate will oversee team members including cooks and kitchen associates, ensuring efficient preparation of food according to standardized recipes. Meticulous attention is required for food presentation, portion control, and monitoring serving temperatures to maintain consistency and customer satisfaction. Supervisory responsibilities will extend to interviewing, scheduling, payroll management, staff training, and conducting performance reviews and disciplinary actions when necessary.

In addition to leadership duties, the Chef will also participate directly in food preparation and service, inspect deliveries for quality and quantity, manage inventory and food requisitioning, and uphold stringent sanitation practices including maintaining clean equipment and workstations throughout shifts. The role provides an opportunity to contribute creatively to menu planning and recipe development, thereby enhancing the dining experience for patrons. This position offers an hourly wage between $17.00 and $21.00, competitive within the local market.

Job Duties

  • Supervises, coordinates and participates in activities of cooks and other associates engaged in preparing, cooking and serving food
  • Ensures all food handling, sanitation and customer service standards are met
  • Supervises hourly kitchen associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action
  • Efficiently prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes to meet production, delivery and service schedules
  • Ensures proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
  • Tracks food use, waste and consumption to requisition or purchase product
  • Receives and inspects product and supplies for quality and quantity to ensure appropriate inventory
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
  • Cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
  • Helps select and develop recipes and menus
