Job Requirements

  • Must possess education to read, comprehend, and follow recipes and procedures
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • culinary training preferred
  • appropriate health certification as required by health authorities
  • must be able to work independently and manage priorities
  • physical ability to lift 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
  • ability to stand for long periods and ambulate between kitchen and dining areas
  • ability to follow instructions and maintain sanitary standards

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • culinary training preferred
  • appropriate health certification as required by local, state, and federal health departments
  • knowledge of menu planning for geriatric residents
  • excellent cooking and baking skills
  • knowledge of restricted diets such as diabetic, low fat, salt free, and liquid diets
  • interpersonal skills to communicate with residents and staff
  • ability to work independently and prioritize workload
  • knowledge of MSDS sheets and safety guidelines
  • demonstrates compassion and a servant heart philosophy

Job Duties

  • Prepares meals according to established recipes and menus
  • assists Culinary Services Director in creating menus that meet residents' nutritional needs and food preferences
  • presents meals in an appealing and professional manner
  • sets up kitchen and prepares for daily and next day menus
  • cleans dishes, floors, walls, and kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary guidelines
  • maintains organized, clean, and safe storeroom, coolers, and kitchen
  • assists in planning and cooking special meals
  • maintains proper temperatures of steam table, dishwasher, refrigerator, and freezer
  • maintains confidentiality of residents' personal information and protects residents' rights
  • maintains professional appearance and positive customer service environment
  • ensures adequate daily coverage for meal service and assists with dining room maintenance during mealtimes
  • performs other duties as assigned or required
