Job Requirements

Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly
Visual acuity including close and distance vision, depth perception and color vision
Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions
Must be punctual and reliable
Must adhere to company policies and guidelines
Must possess basic arithmetic and customer service skills
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Must be able to follow detailed but simple instructions
Ability to handle cash transactions accurately
Must maintain personal hygiene and dress standards
Ability to work daytime shifts
Willingness to assist in various store functions as needed

Job Qualifications

No formal education required
Previous cashier or customer service experience preferred but not required
Basic arithmetic skills including fractions, decimals and percentages
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Strong communication skills
Ability to handle cash and operate registers
Ability to work as part of a team
Professionalism and customer-focused attitude
Ability to multitask in fast-paced environment
Good physical stamina for standing and lifting
Knowledge of store products and promotional procedures

Job Duties

Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience
Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner
Make an effort to learn customers' names and address them personally
Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach products, loading/unloading heavy items, noting and passing along suggestions
Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly service
Operate cash register accurately and scan products
Redeem promotional coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, issue rain checks, handle cash and credit transactions, and provide receipts
Place merchandise in bags or boxes and assist courtesy personnel
Answer customer questions and concerns and follow up appropriately
Follow local, state and company policies on sales of restricted items including tobacco, liquor and lottery
Ensure compliance with guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps
Stock, face, rotate merchandise, clean shelves and know location of merchandise
Maintain store safety and security awareness
Communicate clearly via intercom or telephone
Review weekly store ad for price changes and sales
Keep register area clean and well stocked
Verify cash register balances at shift start and end
Issue cash refunds or credit memorandums as needed
Practice proper sanitation and maintain clean work area
Adhere to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
Report to work on time and as scheduled
Assist store management with displays and special promotions
Understand code dates on perishables and explain to customers
Change register tape and ribbons as necessary
Assist in other store areas as needed
Perform other related duties and projects as required
