The role of Server at Sonesta International Hotels is essential in upholding the company’s mission to "Wow" guests with amazing moments during their stay. This position plays a pivotal role in the dining experience by setting the tone for the entire hospitality encounter. The Server is responsible for welcoming guests warmly, taking accurate orders, and serving food and beverages with friendliness and professionalism. It is a fast-paced position that requires adherence to quality standards, cleanliness, and sanitation guidelines. Servers must maintain service areas efficiently, demonstrating complete knowledge of the food and beverage menu, and operate point of sale (POS) systems accurately. Responsibilities also include ensuring proper portioning, checking food temperatures and appearances, and refilling orders as needed.

Candidates for this position must be passionate about hospitality and delivering exceptional guest service, working well under pressure while maintaining a high level of performance, and contributing positively to the team environment. Working hours are variable and include weekends, holidays, day, night, and overnight shifts, often requiring 10 to 12-hour workdays. Physical demands involve lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and standing for the entire shift. Previous server experience, particularly in full-service or fine dining establishments, is preferred, along with the completion of food handlers and TIPS certifications. The role demands excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Job Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a server in full service restaurant preferred
  • high school diploma or GED preferred
  • food handlers certificate required
  • TIPS certification required
  • must be able to stand for entire shift
  • must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently
  • able to tolerate extreme temperatures such as kitchens and freezers
  • flexible to work variable days including weekends and holidays
  • flexible to work variable shifts including days, nights, and overnights
  • must read, write and speak English fluently

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of experience as a server in full service restaurant preferred, preferably in a fine dining establishment
  • high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred
  • attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees
  • excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • able to work quickly without compromising quality
  • ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high level of performance
  • must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for entire shift
  • ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
  • food handlers and TIPS certificates required
  • previous front facing guest service experience required
  • must read, write and speak the English language fluently
  • experience with computerized cash registers preferred

Job Duties

  • Greet and acknowledge all arriving guests in a prompt and professional manner
  • engage and interact with guests as appropriate
  • respond to all guests’ questions and requests
  • demonstrate complete knowledge of the food and beverage menu
  • serve food and beverage orders after checking for correct temperature, appearance and portions
  • refill when necessary
  • operate POS system and ensure food orders are verified and transmitted in a prompt manner
  • adhere to all cash handling and credit card policies and procedures
  • periodically check-in with tables to ensure guests’ expectations are being met and exceeded
  • maintain proper condition and cleanliness of dining areas, stations and servicing equipment
  • complete all closing duties and reports as assigned
  • adhere to established safety and sanitation guidelines
  • adhere to uniform and grooming standards
  • perform other duties or projects as requested by management
