Job Description

The Hyde Art Gallery, located within Grossmont College, is a renowned cultural institution dedicated to promoting contemporary art and fostering creative expression within the community. Since its founding, the gallery has served as a vital platform for both emerging and established artists to showcase their work across various artistic disciplines. With a commitment to education and artistic excellence, the Hyde Art Gallery regularly hosts exhibitions, educational programs, and community events, enhancing cultural awareness and appreciation among diverse audiences.

In collaboration with the Grossmont College Ceramics Program, the Hyde Art Gallery proudly presents VIEWPOINT: Ceramics 2026, the latest installment of a respected ceramics exhibition series that has been celebrated since 1977. This juried exhibition is scheduled for Spring 2026 and aims to reimagine the original spirit of the VIEWPOINT exhibitions. These events traditionally bring together artists from across Southern California to explore and present innovative and diverse perspectives in contemporary ceramic art. VIEWPOINT: Ceramics 2026 not only honors the legacy of past exhibitions but also celebrates the dynamic creative possibilities of ceramics as both a functional craft and an expressive art form.

This exhibition will feature a wide range of ceramic works, including sculptural installations, experimental surface treatments, finely crafted vessel forms, and narrative-driven pieces. It provides an exciting snapshot of current trends and practices in ceramic artistry, highlighting the versatility and continuing relevance of this medium. VIEWPOINT: Ceramics 2026 offers participating artists an exceptional opportunity to gain exposure within a respected institutional setting, engage with a community of peers, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding contemporary ceramics.

Artists interested in participating should note key dates, including the submission deadline on October 24th, 2025, and the exhibition duration from February 2nd to March 4th, 2026. There is no submission fee, though artists are responsible for the shipping costs of their work. Selected artists may be asked to provide additional documentation or information following their acceptance into the exhibition. The gallery also facilitates an in-person reception and handles the logistics of artwork delivery and retrieval within specified dates. This careful coordination ensures that participating artists receive the support necessary to present their work effectively.

VIEWPOINT: Ceramics 2026 is open to all ceramic artists aged 18 and older residing in the United States, its territories, or on U.S. military bases abroad. Submitted works must primarily be ceramic and completed within the past three years, and not previously exhibited at the Hyde Art Gallery. Artists are invited to submit up to three original entries for consideration, fostering a competitive and prestigious environment that rewards innovation and artistic merit. For questions or additional information, artists are encouraged to contact the Hyde Art Gallery Director or visit the gallery's official website.

This opportunity is ideal for ceramic artists seeking to advance their career, connect with a like-minded creative community, and showcase their work in a professional and highly regarded venue. VIEWPOINT: Ceramics 2026 continues to build on decades of history, ensuring that the medium of ceramics remains vibrant, relevant, and compelling in the contemporary art world.
