The USO is currently seeking a Center Operations Specialist to be based in Honolulu, Hawaii. This role is pivotal to the day-to-day execution of operations at one or more USO Centers, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and clean environment for service members and their families. The Center Operations Specialist manages high-quality, self-sustaining, and cost-effective programs, events, and activities in and around the Center locations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customer service, operations, and program management, coupled with an ability to interact professionally and empathetically with military audiences and the general public. They will also be responsible for vendor management, budget monitoring, inventory control, and the effective use of technology for administrative and operational tasks.
Additionally, the role involves community engagement and volunteer coordination, delivering valuable experiences for service members through well-organized programs and events. This includes managing volunteers, compiling communications for social and local media, and supporting efforts to develop and maintain relationships with military leaders, local community partners, and donors. The position requires flexibility, excellent problem-solving skills, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. A genuine passion for the USO’s mission and the ability to work collaboratively within a team setting are essential for success in this role. The salary range for this position is $48,300 to $69,000, offering competitive compensation in line with the responsibilities and skills required. Preference will be given to local candidates who can commute easily to the Honolulu location. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years work experience in relevant roles including event management marketing retail customer service or recreation facility
- Strong interpersonal customer service and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with volunteer management software and social media platforms
- Ability to handle confidential information tactfully
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Willingness to work non-standard hours
- Ability to obtain security clearance and background checks
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate motor vehicle
- Ability to obtain and maintain passport and foreign driver’s license if applicable

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years work experience in event management marketing retail customer service recreation facility or related role
- Strong interpersonal customer service and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interact with USO leadership the general public and military audiences professionally
- Proficiency using computers electronics and software including Microsoft Office Suite volunteer management software and social media platforms
- Demonstrated sound judgment and ability to handle confidential information
- Initiative self-motivation and attention to detail with ability to manage multiple projects
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to perform basic math and follow cash donation handling and reporting procedures
- Willingness to work non-standard hours as needed
- General knowledge of military community preferred
- Ability to obtain and maintain credentials for USO center access including security and background screening
- Ability to obtain and maintain valid US passport and foreign driver’s license if applicable
- Strong advocate of the USO mission
Job Duties
- Execute day-to-day center operational procedures ensuring a cost-effective safe welcoming and clean environment
- Engage and interact with center visitors serving as a subject matter expert about amenities tours classes programs and services and troubleshoot to resolve issues
- Help maintain center operations within budget monitor maintain and accurately report on inventory and handle cash
- Create and maintain a Standard Operating Procedure file detailing local operational procedures and center activities
- Help plan oversee and lead execution of operational areas including programs logistics inventory management budget social media and database management
- Assist with operations and programs communications and awareness compiling announcements stories and photos for social media and publications
- Deliver manage and evaluate new and existing USO programs activities and events ensuring effective and efficient coordination
- Assist in reviewing USO programs and services research and recommend new initiatives and implement changes
- Develop and maintain relationships with military local community leaders partners donors and media representatives
- Coordinate resources including volunteers materials and supplies for programs events and activities and oversee volunteer participation
- Communicate key information to volunteers maintain and generate volunteer database reports and direct prospective volunteers through application and training processes
- Operate USO or personal motor vehicle as required
- Perform other duties including backfilling for Center Operations Manager or other positions as directed
