Job Description

The University of North Texas (UNT) System is a renowned education network that encompasses multiple institutions, including the University of North Texas in Denton and Frisco, the University of North Texas at Dallas and UNT Dallas College of Law, and the University of North Texas Health Science Center located in Fort Worth. Uniquely positioned in the dynamic Dallas-Fort Worth region, the UNT System serves a vast community of over 49,000 students and employs more than 14,000 staff members. It prides itself on maintaining a people-first, values-driven culture centered around excellence, curiosity, innovation, and respect. The system fosters an inclusive environment that encourages growth, collaboration, and integrity among its members. The UNT System's commitment to transforming lives through education and fostering economic opportunities is reflected in its numerous degree programs and community-oriented initiatives.

Within this prestigious university system, the Center for Student Life at the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth plays a pivotal role. This department is dedicated to cultivating community and enriching student experiences by organizing events, supporting student engagement activities, and coordinating orientation programs for new students. The Center works closely with various campus partners to ensure that student success and involvement remain at the forefront of its efforts. It offers diverse services including leadership development programs, peer initiatives, and oversight of student government and organizations, thereby creating a vibrant and supportive campus atmosphere.

The Center for Student Life Summer Intern will join this dynamic environment as an hourly intern position, offering a rate of $18.00 per hour. This role is integral to supporting the operations of the Center by assisting in the design and execution of orientation programs and Welcome Week activities aimed at graduate students enrolled in health profession programs. These programs include the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Health Professions (featuring Physician Assistant Studies and Doctor of Physical Therapy), College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences, College of Public Health, and the UNT System College of Pharmacy.

In this internship role, the individual will work closely with the Senior Student Services Coordinator, contributing to the enhancement of student engagement by facilitating orientation sessions, organizing social events, and handling student inquiries. The intern will be responsible for developing program assessments and student learning outcomes to ensure continuous improvement of orientation initiatives. Additionally, they will assist in refining an online orientation platform and help establish training procedures for Orientation Leaders. The position also involves expanding the involvement of student groups during orientation and offering recommendations for future programming to optimize the orientation experience.

The internship offers a flexible work schedule with a preferred start date of May 4th and an end date around August 28th. The workweek consists of up to 19 hours, except during four high-activity orientation weeks when up to 40 hours may be required. The position requires physical activities such as lifting up to 20 pounds, standing or sitting for extended periods, and moving about campus. While it does not involve driving a university vehicle, it is designated as a security-sensitive position, reflecting the importance of maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all participants.

The ideal candidate for this internship has a background in student programming or event management, holds or is completing a bachelor's degree, and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse populations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a commitment to excellent customer service are essential. Preferred qualifications include enrollment in a higher education graduate program and previous experience with orientation or new student services.

By joining the University of North Texas System as a Center for Student Life Summer Intern, candidates will gain valuable hands-on experience in higher education student affairs and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to student success and retention. They become part of a collegial team that values curiosity, integrity, and innovation, helping shape memorable student experiences at a leading health science institution.
