The company is known for fostering a culture of safety, customer success, sustainability, and innovation, driven by the passion and diversity of its workforce of 18,000 associates. As a subsidiary of Air Liquide, a global leader in gases, technologies, and services for industry and healthcare, Airgas benefits from a worldwide presence in 60 countries, employing approximately 66,500 individuals and serving over 4 million customers and patients. This position is based in Columbia, SC, with a focus on filling industrial needs and supporting the local operations with reliable transportation and delivery services. The employment is full-time with a Monday to Friday schedule starting at 6 am, allowing drivers to be home daily, which promotes a good work-life balance.
The role of a CDL Route Driver at Airgas in Columbia is integral to ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of compressed gas cylinders and other related materials between locations. The driver will operate a Class B Hazmat vehicle along designated routes to deliver compressed and liquid gas cylinders as well as hard goods. This position requires adherence to strict safety protocols, including hazardous material handling and vehicle maintenance inspections. The CDL Route Driver will load and unload materials, maintain accurate documentation and customer signatures for all transactions, and provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and collecting empty cylinders from customers. The role also involves operating warehouse equipment such as forklifts and conducting thorough pre- and post-trip safety inspections to guarantee the vehicle's condition and compliance with safety regulations.
This position emphasizes professionalism and representing the company positively during all deliveries. Candidates must meet several requirements, including being at least 21 years old, holding a Class B CDL license, possessing or obtaining a Hazmat endorsement within 60 days of hire, and passing background and motor vehicle checks. The job demands physical capability to lift between 25 to over 100 pounds and requires willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Airgas prioritizes a drug-free workplace and expects all employees to adhere to safety policies and regulations.
Airgas offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports the entire well-being of its employees and their families. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and AD&D insurance, disability coverage, and an Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, Airgas provides paid parental leave of up to 14 weeks, a 401(k) retirement plan with company matching, tuition assistance, paid holidays, vacation, sick time, and other paid leaves such as jury duty and bereavement. Employees gain access to their benefits just 30 days after employment begins. This role is ideal for candidates seeking a stable career with a respected industry leader that values diversity, inclusiveness, and employee growth. Candidates can expect a supportive work environment where their contributions enhance company performance and their personal development aligns with the company’s culture of innovation and safety.
