Airgas is currently seeking a dedicated CDL Route Driver to join their Middlebrook industrial filling location in Knoxville, TN. This position is designed for professional drivers who have a passion for safety and customer service. The CDL Route Driver will be entrusted with the safe transportation, loading, and unloading of compressed gas cylinders and related products to various locations. This role involves operating a Class B Hazmat vehicle along designated routes and requires strict adherence to hazardous material handling protocols.

The driver will play a key role in customer relations by collecting empty cylinders, addressing inquiries, and ensuring complete satisfaction. Accurate documentation and obtaining necessary signatures are essential tasks. The CDL Route Driver will also be responsible for loading and unloading materials, conducting thorough vehicle inspections before and after trips, and reporting any issues to maintain vehicle safety and reliability. Representing Airgas with professionalism during all delivery interactions is a vital aspect of the role.

This full-time Monday through Friday role begins at 6 am, with the benefit of returning home daily. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Class B CDL
  • Must have HAZMAT endorsement or be able to obtain within 60 days of being hired
  • Successful completion of Airgas background and motor vehicle check
  • DOT Clearinghouse verification from previous employers required
  • Ability to routinely lift 25 - 75 lbs and occasionally lift 76 to greater than 100 lbs
  • Willingness to work outdoors in changing temperatures
  • Ability to maintain a drug-free workplace
  • Adherence to safety regulations and policies

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Touch freight delivery experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Operate a Class B Hazmat vehicle to deliver compressed and liquid gas cylinders and hard goods along designated routes
  • Collect empty cylinders from customers and address inquiries to ensure complete satisfaction
  • Record all transactions accurately and obtain necessary customer signatures
  • Handle loading and unloading of all materials
  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections noting any issues to ensure full safety compliance and maintain vehicle condition
  • Maintain a professional appearance and serve as a representative of the company during all deliveries
