Job Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel 3-4 months at a time within specified regions
  • adherence to all company safety policies and procedures
  • completion of annual Road Worker Safety training
  • ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • physical ability to maintain awkward postures such as bending, stooping, crouching, and crawling
  • ability to climb up to 300 steps per day
  • visual ability to distinguish signal colors and observe track signals
  • normal hearing ability including recognizing various audible alarms
  • ability to operate a vehicle safely in compliance with DOT regulations
  • maintain organized and clean detector car
  • ability to communicate clearly and concisely with crew members
  • ability to assist in maintenance and repairs as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing a tire and replacing a battery
  • physical ability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs, occasionally over 100 lbs
  • capability to squat, kneel, and crawl under an 18-inch clearance
  • minimum of 2 years commercial driving experience preferred
  • high school diploma or GED preferred

Job Duties

  • Operate test vehicle/detector car on and off railroad tracks
  • perform vehicle inspections and equipment setup
  • record and interpret data on computer monitors
  • service, maintain, and repair the vehicle and detector carriage
  • climb steps and ladders to enter and exit the vehicle
  • perform ground examination of rails using hand test units
  • communicate effectively with crew and pilot members via radio and intercom
