Job Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel 3-4 months at a time within specified regions
- adherence to all company safety policies and procedures
- completion of annual Road Worker Safety training
- ability to work in extreme weather conditions
- physical ability to maintain awkward postures such as bending, stooping, crouching, and crawling
- ability to climb up to 300 steps per day
- visual ability to distinguish signal colors and observe track signals
- normal hearing ability including recognizing various audible alarms
- ability to operate a vehicle safely in compliance with DOT regulations
- maintain organized and clean detector car
- ability to communicate clearly and concisely with crew members
- ability to assist in maintenance and repairs as needed
Job Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- ability to perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing a tire and replacing a battery
- physical ability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs, occasionally over 100 lbs
- capability to squat, kneel, and crawl under an 18-inch clearance
- minimum of 2 years commercial driving experience preferred
- high school diploma or GED preferred
Job Duties
- Operate test vehicle/detector car on and off railroad tracks
- perform vehicle inspections and equipment setup
- record and interpret data on computer monitors
- service, maintain, and repair the vehicle and detector carriage
- climb steps and ladders to enter and exit the vehicle
- perform ground examination of rails using hand test units
- communicate effectively with crew and pilot members via radio and intercom
