The Shuttle Driver position at Performance Foodservice is a vital role in the company’s supply chain operations. Drivers in this role are responsible for transporting empty and full trailers between operating company warehouse locations and domiciles or shuttle yard locations. Working predominantly on Sunday through Thursday shifts with starting times between 11 PM and 3 AM, shuttle drivers operate tandem trailers, tractor trailers, and/or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes. The role demands strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies to ensure the secure and timely delivery of goods. Beyond transportation duties, shuttle drivers act as brand ambassadors, representing the company to customers, vendors, and coworkers, building lasting relationships through professional communication and service. The position requires thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, proper handling and securing of freight, and compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. Shuttle drivers also perform additional tasks such as equipment unloading, trash removal, general housekeeping duties, and the management of damaged goods and customer returns. Accurate maintenance of hours of service records in accordance with federal, state, and company guidelines is also a key responsibility. Job Requirements
- work required 3rd shift schedule sunday to thursday nights schedules may vary
- pass pre-employment drug test
- pass road test
- valid current DOT health card and or able to secure new DOT health card
- able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler lift gate and or other equipment to move and or stack product cases or freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- product generally ranges from approximately 60 to 90 pounds depending on the location
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or GED
- 1 year or more commercial driving experience
- valid CDL A with doubles endorsement
- must be 21 years of age
- meet all state licensing and or certification requirements where applicable
- clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
Job Duties
- perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
- report all safety issues and or repairs required
- follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- immediately report all safety hazards
- inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- ensure all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available to driver upon dispatch
- drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
- perform hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
- park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
- ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and or always secured
- collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to driver check-in at base facility and complete necessary paperwork
- unload all equipment materials and remove trash from trailers as required
- complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT state and company requirements
- perform general housekeeping duties in tractor loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
- perform other related duties as assigned
