Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading division of Performance Food Group (PFG), operates as a broadline distributor with a diverse and unique customer base that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. This reputable company distinguishes itself not only through its extensive range of food and food-related products but also by its commitment to building close relationships with its customers. A dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts actively collaborates with these customers, offering valuable advice on enhancing operations, menu development, product selection, and overall operational strategies. The company’s core mission goes beyond merely delivering delicious food—it aims to empower independent restaurant owners and foodservice businesses to achieve their dreams and thrive in a competitive market.
Performance Foodservice takes pride in fostering a culture of inclusion, safety, and mutual respect while providing competitive pay and an extensive benefits package. With a strong focus on employee well-being and growth, the company offers day-one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more. These benefits reflect the company’s dedication to supporting its workforce in both their professional development and personal lives. As a part of an Equal Employment Opportunity employer, Performance Foodservice stands firm in its policy to provide a discrimination-free workplace where individuals from diverse backgrounds can contribute and prosper.
The Driver, Dedicated Backhaul position is a vital role within Performance Foodservice’s logistics and distribution network. This role involves operating a tractor-trailer (either day cab or sleeper configuration), tandem trailers, and straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes. The drivers are responsible for transporting logistics loads, including food and non-food products, safely and efficiently, adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. These routes may include local deliveries, over-the-road journeys with layovers, shuttle routes, and overnight or drive-and-drop assignments. The position demands excellence in customer service as drivers serve as the face of the company, fostering lasting and positive relationships with customers, vendors, and coworkers through professional and courteous communication.
A typical work schedule for this role is Sunday through Thursday, with dispatch occurring between 2 pm and 4 pm. Drivers can expect an average annual salary ranging between $70,000 and $80,000, accompanied by a $5,000 sign-on bonus, subject to terms and conditions. The role requires vigilance in performing deliveries and pickups according to predetermined routes and schedules while conducting thorough inspections of loads, paperwork, and products. Drivers must routinely communicate with supervisors regarding route confirmations, schedule adjustments, and any issues encountered during their journeys. Safety remains a paramount concern, and drivers are tasked with securing equipment and completing all necessary documentation at the end of each shift.
In addition to driving duties, this position necessitates physical capability, including the ability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move product cases typically ranging in weight from between 10 to 35 pounds and sometimes up to 60 to 90 pounds, depending on location-specific requirements. The ideal candidate will be committed to maintaining organizational standards, ensuring accurate and timely delivery, and contributing positively to the team environment. This opportunity at Performance Foodservice offers growth potential within a company that values its employees and their contributions to the essential food distribution supply chain, making it an excellent choice for professional drivers seeking a stable and rewarding career.
