Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor within Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a critical role in the food distribution industry by maintaining a unique relationship with a diverse range of local customers. These customers include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on a dedicated team comprised of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and various experts who foster close partnerships with customers. Beyond merely delivering products, the team offers valuable advice aimed at improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies, thereby supporting the growth and success of independent restaurant owners and foodservice providers alike. Performance Foodservice is committed to a culture that prioritizes safety, inclusivity, and respect, creating a work environment that rewards and recognizes employees' contributions while promoting wellbeing from day one.
The Driver, Formula CDL-A position is a vital role within this organization, responsible for ensuring the timely and safe delivery of food and foodservice products across intrastate and interstate routes. This role requires driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop routes. The position operates under a component pay structure with a minimum pay of $350 per day and involves working 4-5 days per week depending on business needs, with no shifts scheduled on Sundays. Shifts typically average between 10 to 12 hours, with dispatch times ranging from midnight to 5 AM depending on the assigned route.
Delivery drivers are not just transportation operators; they embody the company's commitment to service excellence by building lasting relationships with customers while ensuring that their products arrive in perfect condition and on schedule. The role involves a mix of responsibilities including performing pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, accurately managing freight documentation, and handling loading and unloading operations with care. Drivers must also adhere strictly to safety and company policies, report any vehicle issues, and perform general housekeeping duties related to the tractor, trailer, and loading dock areas.
This position demands a professional and courteous approach when interacting with customers, vendors, and coworkers, as well as the ability to function effectively as a team member. The successful candidate will need to follow all DOT laws, maintain a clean driving record, and be able to pass various required tests including post-offer drug screening, criminal background checks, and road tests. Physical demands include the ability to hand-lift product cases weighing typically between 10 to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 60 to 90 pounds, using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.
Performance Foodservice offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes day one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and other perks. Additionally, the company is an equal employment opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, providing equal opportunities regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable laws. This role not only offers competitive pay and meaningful work but also opportunities for personal and professional growth within an industry essential to America's food supply chain.
