The CDL-A Driver plays a pivotal role within Performance Foodservice, serving as a critical link in the nation’s food supply chain. This position involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks across local, intrastate, and interstate routes, including over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop assignments. The primary responsibility of the CDL-A Driver is to ensure timely, safe, and accurate delivery of food and food service products to various customers. This role is not merely about transportation; drivers act as the face of the company, fostering positive customer relations through professional interactions. Key aspects of the role include performing thorough safety and vehicle inspections according to Department of Transportation regulations, maintaining communication with customers, vendors, and co-workers, properly handling and securing freight, and accurately completing required delivery paperwork. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- minimum 12 months of commercial driving experience
- valid CDL-A license
- age 21 years or older
- meet state licensing and certification requirements as applicable
- clean motor vehicle record for past 3 years
- successful completion of post offer drug test and criminal background check
- pass road test
- current or able to obtain DOT health card
- physical ability to hand-lift and use equipment to handle freight weights ranging generally from 10 to 90 pounds
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- 12+ months commercial driving experience
- valid CDL-A
- must be 21+ years of age
- meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
- pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- pass road test
- attains or has valid current DOT health card and/or able to secure new DOT health card
- able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- product generally ranges from 10-35 pounds with occasional weights up to approximately 60-90 pounds depending on location
Job Duties
- Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
- functions as a team member within the department and organization as required and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
- performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
- reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
- follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- performs count check of items and check customer invoices of products loaded
- checks and completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
- moves tractor to loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
- drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
- unloads products from trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
- performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
- verifies delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
- collects money where required and loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
- ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
- unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
- performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean
- completes daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- at end of shift secure all equipment and complete necessary paperwork
- performs other related duties as assigned
