The role of the CDL-A Driver is integral to Performance Foodservice’s operations and the broader food supply chain. Delivery drivers are responsible for the timely and safe transportation of food and food-related products, ensuring customer satisfaction through dependable service and professional interactions. Drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight assignments. They are tasked with upholding strict compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards, including meticulous inspections and record-keeping.

This position demands more than just driving skills; it requires a proactive approach to safety, customer service, and teamwork. CDL-A Drivers serve as frontline ambassadors for the company by fostering positive relationships with customers and vendors, handling deliveries with accuracy and care, and managing logistical details such as loading, unloading, securing freight, and completing necessary paperwork. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 12 months of commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Compliance with state licensing and certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle report for the past three years
  • Successful completion of post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Passing of road test
  • Possession or ability to obtain a valid DOT health card
  • Physical ability to hand-lift and use equipment to move product cases/freight ranging 10-90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 12 plus months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Must be 21 plus years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight weighing between 10 to 90 pounds

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization as required and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Checks and completes in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money where required
  • Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
  • Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clear and clean as required
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters logs in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
