Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor serving a diverse range of customers across the foodservice industry. This includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team consisting of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts, Performance Foodservice builds strong, lasting relationships with its customers. The company is not only committed to delivering high-quality food products but also to providing expert advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. Through these services, Performance Foodservice supports the growth and success of independent restaurant owners and many other foodservice businesses.
The role of the CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is crucial in maintaining the efficiency and reliability of the company’s food distribution network. This position offers an average salary of $90,000 per year and operates on a Monday to Friday schedule with early morning starts. Delivery drivers at Performance Foodservice do more than transport goods; they are integral members of the food supply chain and the face of the company, responsible for building impactful customer relationships while ensuring timely and safe deliveries.
The CDL-A Driver’s primary responsibility includes operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on local, regional, and overnight routes, as well as shuttle and drive-and-drop assignments. The role demands strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards. Drivers perform essential pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, ensure that freight is properly loaded and secured, and carry out accurate paperwork related to deliveries. Interaction with customers, vendors, and coworkers is a key element of the job, requiring professional communication skills and a team-focused attitude.
Safety is paramount in this role. Drivers are responsible for reporting any vehicle safety concerns and following all DOT and company safety policies. During deliveries, drivers unload products, verify order accuracy with customers, collect payments when required, and ensure proper handling of returns and damaged goods. The position demands physical endurance, as drivers must hand-lift and use equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to move freight, which can vary significantly in weight.
Working with Performance Foodservice provides opportunities for career growth within a company committed to supporting America’s food distribution system. The company fosters a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment where rewards and recognition are integral parts of the culture. Benefits begin on day one and include health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Employees play a vital role in the success of a trusted distributor that values its workforce and strives to maintain a culture of excellence and support.
