Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor, plays a pivotal role in America’s food distribution network by catering to an extensive range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company differentiates itself through a dedicated team that comprises sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists who work collaboratively to deliver not only top-quality food products but also expert advice on operational enhancements, menu development, and product selection. This holistic approach supports independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators in optimizing their business, allowing them to thrive in a competitive marketplace. Performance Foodservice prides itself on fostering strong customer relationships built on trust, quality, and personalized service, establishing itself as a trusted partner within the food distribution industry.

The Driver Trainee role at Performance Foodservice represents an exceptional entry-level opportunity designed for individuals aiming to launch a professional driving career within the logistics and food distribution sector. This role involves comprehensive training programs, including the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, equipping candidates with the essential skills required to operate tractor trailers and straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries. The position demands delivering a variety of food and food-related products safely and efficiently on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. Trainees are tasked with mastering all aspects of truck operation, safety compliance, and customer service to transition into full driving responsibilities.

Performance Foodservice emphasizes safety and regulatory compliance in all operations. The Driver Trainee will perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections following Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company standards to maintain the highest safety levels. This includes inspecting vehicles and trailers, ensuring freight is properly loaded and secured, and accurately completing all required documentation. The role demands vigilance, attention to detail, and adherence to all driving regulations to safeguard personnel, products, and the public.

The Driver Trainee serves as a critical liaison between the company and its diverse customer base, delivering not only goods but also an excellent customer service experience. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism while interacting with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring that all services reflect the company’s values of respect, reward, and recognition within a safe and inclusive work environment.

This position is scheduled Monday through Friday with dispatch times mainly between 4:00 am and 6:00 am. It offers competitive pay ranging from $62,000 to $85,000 annually, alongside an impressive benefits package including Day 1 Health & Wellness Benefits, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K Employer Matching, Education Assistance, Paid Time Off, and considerable growth opportunities.
