Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a vital role in supporting the foodservice industry throughout the United States. The company maintains strong, unique relationships with a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Backed by a knowledgeable team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts, Performance Foodservice not only supplies quality food products but also delivers expert advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and strategic business growth. This dedicated approach assists independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators in achieving their business goals and enhancing their customer experiences.

Performance Foodservice prides itself on fostering a safe and inclusive working environment where employees feel valued through a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect. The company offers competitive pay and benefits starting from $62,000 up to $85,000 annually, including day one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. Employees have tremendous growth opportunities while playing an essential role in supporting America’s food distribution network.

The role of Driver Trainee at Performance Foodservice is an entry-level position designed to provide individuals with foundational driving experience. Trainees are responsible for learning to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate hauling. This includes local routes, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight destinations, primarily focused on delivering and unloading food and food-related products to customers safely and efficiently. The Driver Trainee participates in a comprehensive training program that covers all aspects of safe driving, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and company policies to prepare for a full commercial driving role.

In this position, trainees gain hands-on experience by riding with a driver trainer and assisting with deliveries. They perform essential tasks such as pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, verifying freight accuracy, securing loads, and completing required documentation. Excellent communication skills are vital as the trainee interacts regularly with customers, vendors, and coworkers while maintaining professional conduct and superior customer service.

Adhering to all safety and regulatory guidelines is paramount. The Driver Trainee must inspect all vehicles and freight, promptly report any safety issues, and uphold company standards for secure and damage-free deliveries. Important duties also include unloading and organizing products at customer locations, managing returns, completing logs and paperwork, and maintaining clean work areas.

This entry-level role is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to build a long-term career in commercial driving within the foodservice distribution industry. Through structured training and practical experience, trainees develop the skills needed to progress into full-time driver positions with Performance Foodservice. The company is committed to supporting employee growth in a collaborative atmosphere while contributing to the essential logistics that keep America’s food supply chain running smoothly.
