Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor serving a diverse range of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Known for its commitment to delivering high-quality food products and outstanding customer service, PFG's team includes sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who collaborate closely with clients. This collaboration not only helps improve their operations and menu development but also assists in product selection and strategic planning, fostering strong, long-term relationships that support the growth and success of independent restaurant owners and other foodservice businesses. With a reputation for reliability and customer-centric service, Performance Foodservice plays a vital role in America's food distribution system, emphasizing safety, inclusivity, and opportunity for all employees.

This job opportunity is for an entry-level Driver Trainee position designed to train individuals in safely operating tractor trailers and straight trucks. The role is essential in supporting the timely and efficient delivery of food and related products to a variety of customers within intrastate and interstate routes, including local deliveries, over-the-road journeys, shuttle runs, and overnight hauls. As a Driver Trainee, you will be part of a dedicated team that prioritizes adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards to ensure all deliveries are performed without incident. The position offers a competitive salary ranging from $62,000 to $85,000 annually, along with a Monday through Friday schedule, with dispatch hours early in the morning from 4:00 am to 6:00 am.

The role provides comprehensive training through programs such as the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, where trainees will ride with experienced drivers to learn safe driving practices, pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, freight handling, and customer service skills. Responsibilities include conducting thorough safety checks on vehicles and equipment, loading and unloading product, verifying delivery correctness, maintaining accurate delivery documentation, and ensuring secure transportation of goods per company protocols. Effective communication skills are essential for this role, as drivers interact with customers, vendors, and team members to deliver a positive delivery experience.

Performance Foodservice is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive work environment for all employees, promoting a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect. This job opportunity not only provides entry into the essential food distribution industry but offers growth potential, a suite of benefits including Day 1 health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401(k) employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. Ideal candidates for this role will possess a valid Class A CDL, a clean driving record, and the physical ability to handle freight of various weights and sizes. The role is well-suited for individuals eager to start a career in commercial driving and foodservice logistics with a reputable and supportive employer.
