Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a prominent broadline distributor specializing in the delivery of food and food-related products to a wide array of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a strong reputation for excellence and customer service, PFG supports its clients through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who collaborate closely with customers to provide valuable insights on menu development, operational strategies, product selection, and ways to enhance overall business performance. This commitment to customer success and quality food distribution distinguishes PFG as a leader in the foodservice industry.
This entry-level Driver Trainee position offers a unique opportunity to launch a career in commercial driving within the food distribution sector. The role focuses on learning and gaining hands-on experience in operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The Driver Trainee will work under the guidance of an experienced driver trainer, assisting in delivering and unloading food products to customers while adhering to company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position operates on a Monday through Friday schedule with early morning dispatch hours from 4:00 am to 6:00 am and offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $62,000 to $85,000.
The trainee will be trained within the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, designed to build foundational skills in safe operation, route navigation, delivery execution, and customer service. Responsibilities include conducting safety and pre/post-trip inspections, ensuring trailers are properly loaded and secured, adhering to all DOT and company safety guidelines, and delivering orders according to established routes and schedules. Additionally, the trainee will be responsible for product unloading, verifying deliveries with customers, handling returns and damaged goods, completing necessary paperwork accurately, and performing general housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
PFG fosters a culture of safety, inclusivity, and respect, emphasizing employee recognition and growth opportunities. This role is critical to supporting America's food distribution system and offers significant potential for advancement within the company. Those interested in becoming part of a team that delivers essential goods and services are encouraged to apply, as PFG provides comprehensive benefits starting on day one, including health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. The Driver Trainee position demands professionalism in interactions with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring high standards of service and teamwork. Overall, this job is an excellent pathway for motivated individuals seeking a meaningful and rewarding career in the transportation and logistics industry.
