Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a subsidiary of Performance Food Group, is a leading broadline distributor specializing in the delivery of food products to a diverse range of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company is committed to building strong relationships with its local customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts who offer valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. Performance Foodservice prides itself not only on delivering delicious food but also on empowering independent restaurant owners to achieve their business goals and dreams. The company fosters a culture of safety, inclusivity, and respect, offering competitive pay and benefits starting from the first day of employment. Employees enjoy the advantage of growth opportunities while contributing to the essential work of supporting America’s food distribution system in a safe and rewarding environment.

The Driver Trainee position at Performance Foodservice is an entry-level role designed for individuals who are seeking to gain experience driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and/or overnight routes. The primary responsibilities include safely delivering and unloading various food and related products to customers, adhering strictly to company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This role is crucial in maintaining the high standards of customer service and operational efficiency that Performance Foodservice upholds. The Driver Trainee will participate in a comprehensive training program that includes ride-alongs with experienced driver trainers, completing all safety checks such as pre-trip and post-trip inspections, compliance with DOT safety guidelines, and proper handling and documentation of freight.

Throughout the training and beyond, the driver will interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers while executing all assigned duties. The position requires physical capability to handle product cases and freight weighing between 60 to 90 pounds using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates. Driver Trainees are expected to maintain clean and organized transport vehicles and equipment, accurately complete delivery paperwork, and ensure secure loading and unloading procedures. This role presents an opportunity to build a rewarding career in transportation within the foodservice distribution industry, supported by extensive benefits including health and wellness packages, employee stock purchase plans, employer-matched 401K, education assistance, and paid time off. With an annual salary range of $62,000 to $85,000 and a Monday through Friday schedule with early morning dispatch times, this position offers a stable and fulfilling work environment for motivated individuals aiming for long-term growth in the logistics sector.
