The role of the CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is an essential part of the company’s food distribution network. This full-time position offers an average annual salary of $90,000, with the added incentive of a $10,000 sign-on bonus, highlighting the company’s commitment to attracting and retaining skilled drivers. The work schedule extends from Monday through Friday, starting early in the morning to ensure timely delivery schedules are met. The CDL-A Driver is responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks safely and efficiently across intrastate and interstate routes, including local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. Drivers play an integral role as the public face of the company by building and maintaining positive relationships with customers. Key responsibilities include ensuring delivery of fresh and safe food products in excellent condition, conducting detailed pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and adhering strictly to safety and driving guidelines. Drivers must accurately load and unload freight, verify shipments with customers, collect payments if required, and secure their vehicle and cargo at all times.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • valid CDL-A license
  • minimum 12 months commercial driving experience
  • must be 21 years or older
  • clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • attain or maintain valid DOT Health Card
  • able to handle physical demands including lifting weights ranging from 10 to 90 pounds
  • meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 12+ months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL-A
  • must be 21+ years of age
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
  • clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
  • 6 months delivery experience using hand truck and ramp (preferred)
  • customer service-related work experience (preferred)

Job Duties

  • communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • performs all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • performs count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • unloads products from the trailer, transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • verifies delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • collects money (cash or checks) where required
  • secures trailer doors and ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
  • completes daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
