Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), specializes in providing comprehensive food distribution solutions across a diverse customer base that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a commitment to excellence and personalized service, Performance Foodservice operates through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts who work closely with customers to improve operations, develop menus, select products, and devise operational strategies that enhance business success. This company is known not just for delivering quality food products but also for empowering independent restaurant owners to achieve their entrepreneurial goals by providing tailored advice and consistent support.
The Driver Trainee position at Performance Foodservice is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals seeking to develop their skills in commercial driving within the food distribution industry. This role serves as a foundational training position designed to equip candidates with the experience and knowledge necessary for safely operating tractor trailers or straight trucks along intrastate and interstate routes. The work schedule is Monday through Friday with dispatch times between 4:00 am and 6:00 am, reflecting the critical role of timely delivery in the company’s supply chain operations. The pay range for this position is competitive, set between $62,000 and $85,000 annually, complemented by comprehensive benefits aimed at supporting employee wellness and growth.
As a Driver Trainee, candidates will undergo a structured training program that includes the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program. They will receive hands-on experience by riding with and assisting experienced drivers, gradually mastering the execution of deliveries and compliance with strict safety protocols governed by Department of Transportation regulations and company policies. The role demands meticulous attention to detail in conducting pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, handling freight accurately, and maintaining proper documentation. Driver Trainees are expected to demonstrate professionalism and competence in interacting with customers, vendors, and colleagues to uphold the company’s standard of exceptional service.
Beyond driving, the role also entails responsibilities such as loading and unloading products, securing freight, managing customer returns, and performing routine maintenance and housekeeping duties to ensure vehicle and trailer cleanliness and readiness. Candidates must be prepared to handle product cases and freight weighing up to approximately 60 to 90 pounds, utilizing equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates safely. Compliance with all Federal and State laws, including maintaining a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and DOT health certification, is mandatory.
Performance Foodservice fosters an inclusive and respectful work environment that values diversity and is committed to equal employment opportunities without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, and other protected characteristics. This position offers not only a competitive compensation package but also an engaging work culture with opportunities for career advancement within a leading foodservice distribution company dedicated to supporting America's food supply chain.
