Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor within the Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a crucial role in providing foodservice products and solutions to a wide range of local customers. These customers include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on building strong relationships with its clients through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. This collaborative team works closely with customers to offer valuable advice on menu development, product selection, operational strategies, and overall business improvement. By going beyond just delivering quality food products, Performance Foodservice seeks to empower independent restaurant owners and other foodservice operators to achieve their business goals and dreams.
As a leader in the food distribution industry, Performance Foodservice emphasizes a culture of safety, respect, inclusivity, and recognition, providing a supportive work environment for its employees. The company places a high priority on the safety of its workforce and the quality of its services, ensuring that deliveries are executed efficiently and meet rigorous Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and company policies. Alongside robust employee benefits and growth opportunities, the company offers competitive pay and a workplace culture that values teamwork and employee development.
The role of CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is pivotal in maintaining the reliability and efficiency of the food supply chain across various regions. This position is full-time, with an annual salary ranging from $65,000 to $75,000 and potential earnings reaching $90,000 annually. Drivers are expected to begin their shifts during early morning hours between 3:00 am and 5:30 am. The position demands responsible stewardship of tractor trailers or straight trucks for local, interstate, and over-the-road (OTR) delivery assignments.
Drivers serve as the frontline representatives of the company, tasked with not only securing and delivering food and related products promptly but also fostering lasting relationships with customers through professional communication and service excellence. The job requires strict adherence to safety inspections, including pre-trip and post-trip tractor and trailer checks, compliance with DOT regulations, and diligent reporting of any issues or hazards. Drivers must also ensure that all freight is properly loaded, secured, and accounted for, performing detailed invoice and paperwork checks for accuracy.
In addition to safe driving, CDL-A Drivers engage in physically demanding tasks such as loading and unloading products, managing customer returns, and operating equipment like hand trucks and lift gates to handle freight ranging from 10 to 90 pounds. Attention to detail is critical, especially when verifying deliveries with customer signatures and handling cash or check transactions when applicable. Drivers are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization within their vehicles and loading dock areas and are expected to complete necessary documentation meticulously at the end of their shifts.
Performance Foodservice supports professional growth through a comprehensive benefits package that includes immediate health and wellness coverage, employee stock purchase opportunities, 401K employer matching, paid time off, educational assistance, and more. The company is committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment that rewards hard work and fosters respect, positioning the CDL-A Driver not just as a delivery expert but as an integral member of the team dedicated to upholding the high standards of America's food distribution system.
