Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor under the umbrella of Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a vital role in the food service industry by delivering high-quality food products across the Chicago market and beyond. As one of the nation’s premier distributors, Performance Foodservice caters to a diverse clientele, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company distinguishes itself not only through its extensive food product offerings but also with a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and operational experts who work closely with customers. This collaborative approach helps clients optimize their operations, guide menu development, select the best products, and implement strategic business practices to enhance growth and profitability. Performance Foodservice emphasizes strong customer relationships by delivering not only quality food but holistic solutions that support the success of food service businesses throughout the country.
The role of Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice is a critical position that ensures the smooth and efficient distribution of food products along the supply chain. With an earning potential exceeding $80,000 plus a daily minimum earning guarantee of $309.14, this position offers both financial stability and professional growth. The delivery driver will primarily operate within the Chicago area under a schedule running Tuesday through Saturday, with dispatch times ranging between 3am and 5am. This role is fundamental to the company’s promise of reliability and customer satisfaction, as the drivers are the face of the company and ambassadors of its values when interacting directly with customers.
The driver is responsible for the safe and timely delivery of food and related products by operating tractor trailers or straight trucks over local intrastate and interstate routes, including over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop assignments. Adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards is strictly observed to ensure compliance and safe operations. This position requires excellent communication skills to professionally engage with customers, vendors, and co-workers, effectively addressing any questions or concerns in a timely manner.
Beyond transportation duties, the driver performs a range of operational tasks including pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, verifying the accuracy and condition of freight, completing necessary paperwork, handling customer transactions when required, and managing equipment and trailer security. Drivers also assist in loading and unloading deliveries, performing damage control, and maintaining cleanliness in the loading and vehicle areas. These functions collectively contribute to maintaining the integrity and safety of the supply chain, supporting the broader mission of Performance Foodservice to deliver exceptional service and products.
Working at Performance Foodservice offers more than just a job; it is an opportunity to be part of a company culture that values safety, respect, teamwork, and personal growth. The organization provides a safe and inclusive working environment with comprehensive benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness coverage, a robust employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Employees have access to rewarding career paths with opportunities to grow within the company while contributing to an essential sector of America’s food distribution system. Performance Foodservice’s commitment to equal employment opportunity ensures a diverse workplace where all individuals are valued and supported to reach their potential.
