Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays an essential role in the foodservice industry by supporting a diverse client base that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Their team, which consists of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, fosters close relationships with customers to deliver not just quality food but also strategic advice that enhances operations, menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies. Performance Foodservice prides itself on going beyond simple delivery, helping independent restaurant owners and other foodservice clients achieve their business dreams.
The CDL-B Driver role at Performance Foodservice is a critical position within the company’s operations, responsible for ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products across intrastate and interstate routes. Offering a competitive schedule from Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays, the position provides an average annual pay ranging from $75,000 to $85,000. Drivers are compensated based on cases delivered, miles driven, stops made, and dispatch fees, with a progressive daily minimum pay to ensure fair compensation.
This role demands a high level of responsibility as drivers represent the company’s face to its customers, embodying professionalism and reliability. CDL-B Drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks for local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and drive-and-drop routes. They must adhere strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, conduct thorough safety inspections, and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and coworkers. Duties include performing safety checks pre and post-trip, reporting any safety or repair issues, verifying product counts, managing paperwork accurately, and ensuring freight is loaded, secured, and delivered according to company and regulatory standards.
Drivers also handle unloading products at customer sites, managing damaged goods, obtaining delivery confirmations, collecting payments when necessary, securing loads during transport, and maintaining cleanliness and operational order in their vehicles and loading dock areas. The role requires physical ability to handle product cases ranging in weight from 10 to 90 pounds, often utilizing equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates. Successful applicants need to demonstrate not only driving proficiency but also teamwork, customer service skills, and a commitment to safety.
Performance Foodservice supports its employees with excellent benefits including Day 1 Health and Wellness coverage, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Growth opportunities within the company are emphasized, reflecting the vital nature of this work in supporting America’s food distribution system. The company fosters a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment where rewards and recognition are part of the culture.
Performance Foodservice is committed to equal employment opportunities and complies with all local, state, and federal laws regarding non-discrimination, ensuring a diverse workforce reflective of its broad customer base.
