The role of a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Performance Foodservice is a vital position within the food supply chain. Drivers are entrusted with the responsibility of transporting a variety of food and related products to customers while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards and delivery schedules. This position offers an average annual pay between $75,000 and $100,000+, with uncapped pay potential, making it a rewarding opportunity for qualified individuals. Additional compensation includes quarterly safety bonuses, unlimited referral bonuses of $2,500 per successful referral, and a generous $5,000 sign-on bonus for eligible new hires. Drivers typically work a 4- or 5-day workweek with up to two nights away from home per week and receive approximately $145 per diem and overnight compensation. The company provides new equipment to ensure drivers have the tools they need to perform their duties efficiently and safely.

The delivery driver’s day-to-day responsibilities encompass driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes including local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR) shipments, shuttle assignments, and drive and drop schedules. Drivers serve as the visible face of Performance Foodservice, often interacting directly with customers, vendors, and coworkers, and play a key role in building lasting customer relationships. Responsibilities include performing pre- and post-trip safety inspections in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, reporting any safety or repair issues, and following company safe driving policies.

Additionally, drivers handle the loading and unloading of freight, verify the accuracy of freight counts and customer invoices, complete all necessary paperwork, and ensure all cargo is securely loaded and locked during transport. Payment collection, damage control, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of equipment and trailers are also important aspects of the role. Drivers are expected to comply with all federal, state, and company regulations and submit timely and accurate logs of their hours of service. This position requires physical capability, including hand-lifting and using equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to handle product cases weighing from 10 to up to 90 pounds depending on location.
