Job Description

Core-Mark, a Performance Food Group Company, stands as a prominent player in the food distribution industry, recognized as a Fortune 150 company with a strong growth trajectory. Specializing in both fresh and broad-line solutions, Core-Mark primarily serves the convenience retail industry across the United States and Canada. Generating over 23 billion dollars in revenue, the company has built a reputation for empowering customers, employees, and communities alike. Operating through a robust network of distribution centers, Core-Mark offers an extensive range of products, programs, and tailored solutions that cater to the diverse needs of its clientele. The company upholds a commitment to equal employment opportunity, fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace environment that values diversity and promotes culture of rewards and recognition.

The Driver, Hourly CDL-A role at Core-Mark is integral to the efficient functioning of America’s food supply chain. Delivery drivers in this position are essential in ensuring that food and food service products reach customers promptly and in optimal condition. Beyond the operational duties, drivers represent the face of Core-Mark, playing a pivotal role in cultivating lasting relationships with customers through professional and courteous interaction. This role demands not only driving proficiency but also adherence to stringent safety protocols governed by Department of Transportation regulations. Drivers are responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes, including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop assignments.

The position offers competitive compensation, starting at $28 per hour with additional pay components based on job efficiency. Work shifts typically begin between 1 pm and 3 pm, averaging 12-hour days, and include opportunities for overtime pay beyond 40 hours as well as off-day bonuses. This role features a local delivery schedule allowing drivers to return home daily and enjoy a 4-day work week, promoting a healthy work-life balance. Core-Mark emphasizes safety by providing well-maintained, automatically transmitted equipment, company uniforms, and safety boots. The job excludes merchandising, stocking, or cash handling responsibilities, enabling drivers to focus on driving and delivery duties.

The daily responsibilities require drivers to perform pre- and post-trip safety inspections, ensuring vehicles meet company and DOT standards. Drivers must safely deliver goods following predetermined routes and schedules, unload products, handle necessary paperwork accurately, and maintain clear communication with customers, supervisors, and colleagues. Additional tasks include damage control for products, securing loads appropriately, managing customer returns, and performing housekeeping duties to keep equipment and work areas tidy. As part of a collaborative team, drivers are expected to undertake any duties assigned to support the company’s objectives effectively.

The role demands physical capability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move and stack products weighing typically between 10 and 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 60 to 90 pounds depending on the location. Candidates must hold a valid CDL-A license, meet all relevant state licensing or certification requirements, maintain a clean motor vehicle record, and successfully pass drug and background screenings, as well as road and health card tests. This position offers growth opportunities and a chance to contribute significantly to the food distribution system, ensuring communities have timely access to essential products with professional and reliable service.
