Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor within Performance Food Group (PFG), is recognized for its dedication to supporting a diverse range of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. PFG is known for building strong relationships with clients through a specialized team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts who provide guidance on a variety of operational needs like menu development, product selection, and enhancing overall business strategies. This commitment allows Performance Foodservice not only to deliver high-quality food products but also to empower independent restaurant owners and foodservice providers to achieve their goals and thrive in their markets.
As a delivery arm of the food supply chain, Performance Foodservice ensures that customers receive their products on time and in excellent condition, while maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive work culture that values rewards, recognition, and respect. The company offers competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits that include day one health and wellness coverage, a generous employee stock purchase plan, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and a range of growth opportunities for employees. The company strictly adheres to equal employment opportunity policies, promoting diversity and inclusiveness in the workplace regardless of race, gender, religion, age, disability, or other protected qualities.
The CDL-A Driver plays a pivotal role within Performance Foodservice by managing the safe and timely delivery of food and related products across intrastate and interstate routes. These routes may include local deliveries, long-haul over-the-road shipments, shuttle services, overnight trips, and drive-and-drop schedules. Drivers are expected to work a five-day week with flexible days off, within a typical dispatch window between midnight and 5 AM, and carry out approximately 10-hour shifts, occasionally involving overnight stays due to the nature of certain routes. Compensation is competitive, averaging $80,000 yearly, plus quarterly safety bonuses that recognize adherence to safety protocols.
This role demands that drivers not only meet stringent Department of Transportation regulations but also uphold company safety standards through thorough pre- and post-trip inspections of their vehicles. Drivers must communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers to resolve inquiries accurately and promptly, while also functioning coherently as part of the team to ensure all duties support company objectives. They are responsible for ensuring all freight is loaded securely, managing paperwork meticulously, verifying deliveries, collecting payments when necessary, and maintaining clean and safe work environments both in vehicles and on facilities such as loading docks.
Overall, the CDL-A Driver position brings together essential driving expertise with customer service skills and operational accountability. It offers candidates the chance to become integral members of a respected company that values safety, teamwork, and employee growth within America’s critical food distribution network.
