The role available is for a Delivery Driver operating under a cross-dock model tasked with handling daily routes, frequent stops, and the loading and unloading of products. This is a customer-facing position where the driver operates away from the main operating company site, positioned closer to customer marketplaces to optimize delivery efficiency and service. The Delivery Driver is responsible not only for transporting goods but also for verifying deliveries, handling customer interactions professionally, performing safety checks, and assisting occasionally with loading and palletizing. This role requires diligence in route management to meet or exceed route schedule expectations and productivity standards, as well as proficiency in handling company equipment safely and adhering to Department of Transportation regulations. The compensation for this role is set at $21 per hour, reflecting the responsibility and expertise required for the position. This role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals with a commercial driving background seeking a role with direct customer engagement and operational responsibilities in logistics and delivery services.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year route delivery experience or equivalent
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License Class B, Class A preferred
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to operate a vehicle in various weather and traffic conditions
  • Ability to lift and move products weighing up to 75 pounds frequently, up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, twisting, climbing on and off trucks, and working in confined spaces
  • Willingness to adhere to Department of Transportation regulations and company policies
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to perform safety checks and equipment handling
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision

Job Qualifications

  • High school or GED or equivalent
  • One year route delivery experience or applicable background driving a straight truck
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License - Class B (Class A preferred)
  • Commercial Vehicle Drivers must have the ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records
  • Operate vehicle in a variety of traffic and weather conditions
  • Meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the company
  • Meet or exceed established cases per error goals
  • Demonstrate strong customer relations and problem resolution skills
  • Effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision
  • Develop a good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures
  • Maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations

Job Duties

  • Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects
  • Runs routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times
  • Unload product from trailer, by hand or using a hand cart, and place in designated customer storage areas
  • Frequently lift, push, or move product that weighs 1-75 pounds, up to 100 pounds
  • frequently reach up to 72 inches to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart
  • constantly bend and twist while loading and unloading product, and retrieving items from trailer
  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Contact management for authorization when discrepancies on invoice and communicate all errors/returns
  • Calls in when a customer does not receive their entire order (shorts)
  • Handles any customer complaints professionally
  • Handles company equipment properly, follow written driver safety rules, and performs a pre-trip inspection
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip responsibilities in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Sysco policies and procedures
  • Organize a truck and make the deliveries efficiently
  • Check whether a truck is operating well enough to perform the route
