Airgas is currently seeking a CDL A Driver - Shuttle to join their team in Sacramento, California, working within their acetylene production and filling plant. This full-time role offers a competitive compensation package ranging from $28.00 to $30.00 per hour, with opportunities for overtime. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., although occasional early morning runs at 2 a.m. or 4 a.m. may be required. The position mandates the use of a CDL A commercial driver's license with Hazmat and Airbrake endorsements, underscoring the safety-sensitive nature of the job.

The CDL A Driver Shuttle will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of gas cylinders, containers, and supplies to scheduled routes, ensuring customer satisfaction through effective service. Duties include loading and unloading service trucks, adherence to company policies concerning safety and personal protective equipment, and active participation in hazard identification within the workplace. The driver will also maintain detailed records in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, inspect vehicles before and after shifts for safe operating conditions, and promptly report any vehicle defects or safety issues.

Beyond the core driving responsibilities, the role encompasses tasks such as pulling orders from the warehouse, processing customer payments, and performing non-route deliveries as necessary to meet customer product demand. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat and Airbrake endorsements
  • 1 year of CDL driving experience in the last 5 years or certificate of completion from trucking school in last 5 years
  • Ability to speak and read English to perform job safely and effectively
  • Maintain appropriate driver's license, medical card and endorsements
  • No more than two traffic convictions or two at-fault accidents in last 3 years
  • No driving under influence of alcohol or controlled substances in last 7 years
  • Ability to work in drug-free environment
  • Ability to regularly lift 75lbs and move more than 125lbs with material handling equipment
  • Working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations for commercial drivers
  • Ability to succeed in fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat and Airbrake endorsements
  • Must have 1 year of CDL driving experience in the last 5 years or be able to provide proof of a certificate of completion from trucking school completed in the last 5 years
  • Based on FMCSA regulations, must be able to speak and read English well enough to perform the job safely and effectively
  • Maintain appropriate driver's license, medical card and endorsements
  • No more than two (2) traffic convictions or two (2) at-fault accidents in the last 3 years
  • No driving while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance within the last seven (7) years
  • Must be able to work in a drug-free environment
  • Be able to regularly lift 75lbs and move more than 125lbs with the aid of material handling equipment
  • Working knowledge of all Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations for commercial drivers
  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer service and communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Possess the ability to read a map and follow directions to effectively navigate delivery routes

Job Duties

  • Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Responsible for participating in identifying any safety and/or health hazards while in the workplace
  • Maintain a safe driving record and appropriate driver's license classification while operating company vehicles and equipment
  • Loads and unloads service trucks with gas cylinders, containers and supplies for scheduled route deliveries as directed by dispatcher
  • Makes deliveries in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction is met
  • Ensures that all documents required to move and deliver the load are available and accurate
  • Perform any non-route delivery necessary to provide customers with products
  • Maintains records promptly and accurately as required by the company and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Inspects vehicles for defects and safe operating conditions before each delivery (pre-trip) and submit necessary documentation to report any defects or problems immediately
  • Performs post-trip delivery at the end of each shift
  • Identify potential problems with cylinders and notify management in a timely manner
  • Performs all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and comply with all federal, state, local and DOT regulations
  • Collects, records transactions and submit all customer payments promptly to the manager
