This particular role is for an entry-level Driver Trainee position within Performance Foodservice. The role is essential in supporting America’s food distribution system by ensuring timely and safe deliveries of food products. It offers a competitive pay rate of $400 per day with a schedule typically from Monday to Saturday, working 4 to 5 days per week. Local routes form the core of this job, with occasional overnight routes. Additionally, new hires may be eligible for a $2,500 sign-on bonus, subject to terms and eligibility requirements.
The Driver Trainee’s primary responsibility is to learn and gain experience in operating a tractor trailer or straight truck for intrastate and interstate deliveries. The role involves training through the company’s Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, requiring successful completion along with maintaining all relevant documentation. The trainee will assist the driver trainer by riding along, learning the delivery routes, safety protocols, and customer service standards.
Key functions include performing safety inspections on equipment, following Department of Transportation regulations, verifying freight loads, handling customer interactions professionally, unloading and loading products, maintaining accurate delivery paperwork, and adhering strictly to company policies regarding safety and operational procedures. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- At least six months of commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL A license
- Age 21 or older
- Meet all state licensing and certification requirements
- Clean driving record for the past three years
- Pass a post offer drug test
- Successful completion of a road test
- Possess or attain a valid DOT health card
- Ability to lift and move product cases weighing 60 to 90 pounds
- Willingness to work Monday through Saturday, 4 to 5 days per week
- Ability to work local routes with occasional overnight trips
- Eligible for sign-on bonus terms
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Six plus months of commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL A license
- Must be 21 years of age
- Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report for past three years
- Pass post offer drug test
- Pass road test
- Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move product cases ranging from approximately 60 to 90 pounds
Job Duties
- Attend and successfully complete PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program
- Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries
- Perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies
- Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight, complete accurate paperwork
- Drive and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route schedule
- Unload products, verify delivery with customer, collect payments, and secure trailer doors
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns, perform damage control checks
- Complete daily hours of service log in accordance with DOT regulations
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clean
- Perform other related duties as assigned
